PVC strip curtains are an effective solution for maintaining temperature, reducing dust, and dampening noise in industrial and commercial settings. However, mistakes in selection and installation can drastically reduce their effectiveness. Here are some common errors that frequently occur:
1. Wrong Material Type and Thickness Selection
Mistake: Using standard (general purpose) PVC strips for cold storage or freezer areas.
Impact: The strips will become stiff and brittle at low temperatures (0^C), leading to cracking and insulation failure.
Solution: Choose PVC Freezer Grade (or Polar Grade), which remains flexible down to very low temperatures (typically up to -40^C).
2. Ignoring the Type of Traffic
Mistake: Installing standard (smooth surface) PVC strips in pathways frequently used by forklifts or heavy vehicles.
Impact: Repeated friction causes the strips to quickly get scratched, become opaque, or even tear, impairing visibility and durability.
Solution: Use PVC Ribbed. The vertical ridges (ribs) act as protectors, reducing the contact area and minimizing damage from impact.
3. Incorrect Sizing and Overlap
Mistake: Cutting the strip height too short or installing with too little overlap.
Impact: Strips that are too short will leave a gap at the bottom, leading to air leaks, insect entry, and loss of energy efficiency. Insufficient overlap also results in poor sealing.
Solution: Ensure the strips hang with a 1–2 cm gap above the floor. Adjust the overlap percentage (e.g., 30%–40% for normal use, 40%–50\%$ for freezers or tight isolation) for optimal sealing.
4. Weak Mounting System Installation
Mistake: Using brackets or mounting rails made of easily corroded material (e.g., regular iron) or insufficient fasteners.
Impact: Over time, the system will rust (especially in humid or freezer environments), causing strips to detach or the rail system to fail.
Solution: Always use a Stainless Steel (SS) mounting system for long-term strength and corrosion resistance.
